    Responsibilities

    We are currently seeking a Lab Planner to be an integral part of our highly regarded lab planning team in Washington, DC. The position has responsibility for collaborating on a broad spectrum of laboratory projects in science, engineering and healthcare for universities, government and industry.  Our team provides programming and planning, lab design, architectural and engineering coordination, equipment planning and construction administration.  We require a high degree of communication with clients and user groups to develop laboratory requirements and to guide projects to superior outcomes for all stakeholders.

     

    • Effectively collaborate with a project team to provide technical expertise in laboratory programming and planning across a broad range of science, engineering and other complex technical facilities.
    • Actively participate in stakeholder meetings with heads of departments, specialists and others to collect and refine program needs for laboratory facilities.
    • Communicate planning concepts to project teams and owners, verbally and through graphic and written reports and work effectively with architectural designers to optimize plans that further owners’ goals and objectives.
    • Translate planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers and project team members.
    • Assist in the development, modification and/or review of laboratory planning concepts and solutions.
    • Develop architectural drawings and specifications to translate planning concepts into project documentation for construction.
    • Assist in developing project scope, plan, and services during the contract process.
    • Incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
    • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with existing and potential clients.
    • Actively seek to further the state of the art within our industry and develop innovative solutions and responses as the needs of scientists and engineers and educators evolve.

    Qualifications

    • Passion for being part of a team devoted to making great architecture for science and technology.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with architectural designers and engineers to gracefully satisfy the demands for productive, flexible and exciting laboratory environments.
    • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.
    • 5 to 10 years’ experience focused on programming and planning of all phases of diverse types laboratory projects for science, engineering and healthcare. .
    • Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design.
    • Working understanding of laboratory MEP systems and typical laboratory equipment and instrumentation requirements. 
    • Knowledge of construction documents, construction administration and project construction cost control for lab facilities.
    • Excellent personal communication skills.
    • Architecture license preferred.
    • Proficiency in Revit required.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
    • Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
    • LEED credential required within 6 months of employment.
